Community Spirit & Supports Local Youth

Detroit Lakes, Minn. — Braving icy waters for a warm cause, hundreds of community members gathered for the 30th Annual Detroit Lakes Polar Fest Plunge in 2026, raising critical funds for the Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes.

Held as part of the city’s beloved Polar Fest festivities, the milestone event drew participants of all ages, many in creative costumes who took the plunge into the frigid waters of Detroit Lake. What began three decades ago as a spirited winter tradition has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated and impactful fundraising events.

Adding to the excitement this year was a special appearance by “Dude Dad”, the popular social media personality known for his humor and relatable parenting content. Taylor Calmus didn’t just make an appearance; he joined in the action, taking the plunge himself to the cheers of a lively crowd. His participation brought added energy and visibility to the event, drawing attention from fans and further amplifying the mission behind the plunge. In the photo featured above, he is plunging alongside “That Midwestern Mom”, Amber Estenson, also a TikTok and social media star.

The event also highlighted the unwavering support of the Detroit Lakes community. Local businesses, families, and organizations rallied together, forming teams, collecting pledges, and cheering on participants from the shoreline. The energy was electric, blending excitement, laughter, and a shared commitment to giving back.

Proceeds from the event directly benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes, helping provide a safe, supportive environment for youth in the community. Funds raised support essential programming, including academic support, mentorship opportunities, healthy meals, and character-building activities that empower young people to reach their full potential.

Organizers noted that the success of the event reflects more than just dollars raised—it demonstrates the power of community connection. Year after year, the Polar Fest Plunge continues to unite individuals around a common purpose: investing in the next generation.

As the final splash marked the close of the 30th annual event, one thing was clear—the tradition remains as strong as ever. With each brave jump into the icy lake, participants are helping ensure a brighter, more promising future for local youth.

For many, the cold may be temporary—but the impact will last all year long.
